Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill Helps People Shape Up

Things are really shaping up in southern Williamson County – tummies and thighs, to be exact.
In 2008, the county celebrated the opening of the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill. The 65,000-square-foot-facility includes a two-court gymnasium, walking track, wellness center and programs for all ages.
“There was definitely a need for a recreation facility in southern Williamson County,” says Doug Hood, director of Williamson County Parks & Recreation. “People are so excited to have this type of facility in the community and the opportunities it will provide them and their families.”
The $14.5 million facility offers fitness rooms, tennis courts, racquetball courts and indoor and outdoor pools. Activity rooms provide ample space for private classes, summer camps and educational programs.
Youth programs and childcare are available for the county’s youngest residents, while teens and adults will find a variety of classes ranging from yoga and tae-kwon-do to jewelry making and watercolor painting.
Meanwhile, seniors can take advantage of the facility’s ongoing activities, including monthly potlucks, socials and day trips.
“We try to plan opportunities for every stage of life,” Hood says.
The facility opened as a joint venture between the city of Spring Hill and the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department. The arrangement allows residents of both Williamson County and Spring Hill to take advantage of all the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill has to offer.
“The facility provides even more residents the opportunity to enjoy the amenities that WCPR has to offer,” Hood says “Our mission is to enrich and enable the lives of all citizens through quality recreation programs, and we hope this is what we’ll do for the residents of Spring Hill and southern Williamson County.”
