Franklin Restaurants Offer Southern-Style Comfort Food
Skillet-fried chicken, corn bread dressing, macaroni and cheese and more. When it comes to comfort food,Williamson County serves up hearty Southern cuisine in spades.
Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant got its start as a culinary destination 10 years ago in the small hamlet of Leiper's Fork, and owner Andy Marshall added a similar eatery on Fourth Avenue South in downtown Franklin in 2005.
“We serve great food, and the residents of both Leiper's Fork and Franklin really support us,” Marshall says. “We have a menu filled with Southern favorites, including barbecue and ribs that the kitchen staff hickory smokes itself.”
Puckett’s serves breakfast, lunch and dinner at both locations and can seat 70 customers in Leiper's Fork and 110 in Franklin.
“We make all of our breads and desserts from scratch at Puckett’s,” Marshall adds. “And our lunch and dinner menu include favorites such as smoked bologna, fried catfish and mushroom-Swiss hamburgers.”
And then there’s Dotson’s, a Franklin mainstay that has been in business for over 60 years. Dotson’s is an old-fashioned "meat-and-three," where customers typically order meat and three side items, such as corn, fried green tomatoes or white beans.
“Our meals make customers feel a little closer to mom’s or grandma’s cooking,” says Arthur McCloud, owner of Dotson’s. “Another perk of eating here is that famous musicians, entertainers and politicians often stop in to break bread with us. A lot of people regard Dotson’s as their favorite place to visit whenever they want a plate of real Southern cooking.”
